I just viewed the film 'Repo! The Genetic...' I can't bring myself to refer to it as an opera, even though it says it is one. I'm certain, at least fairly certain, that with the cult following the film amassed already it will become 'Rocky Horror' to future generations, to whom Rocky will be as Cher is to Madonna.
get my drift?
I like the graphic novel aesthetic, when used by Sin City. I like the sleek dark aesthetic when used by Dark City, I like the horror and gore of Planet Terror. I like musicals along the lines of Sweeney Todd, where (forgive me all true Sweeney Todd theater devotees) the actors can at least sing.
Sarah Brightman can sing. Paris Hilton can even sing. And that sexy graverobber (Terrance Zdunich) who seems like a frontman for a goth band can sing. But everyone else made me cringe more than once. The costumes were pretty sweet, though.

My feelings about that film are pretty similar to yours, I have to say. I can't bring myself to hate it because of the various bits of prettiness and Sarah Brightman. And, well, I do love Paris Hilton just a leedle bit, so she was a total plus for me. But that main character! What was her name, Shiloh? GAH! Gag me with a goth-spoon. She just brought that whole production down!
However, I haven't really seen that Repo! has a huge cult following. I feel like a lot of people expected it to, but then it just sort of...fizzled.
You would, in that case, not believe that I know someone who is in a shadowcast of the thang in a week or so.
Yes yes to the various prettiness and Sarah Brightman whose scene in the lobby of that cool house was somewhat approaching phenomenal.... (pun entirely intended) where she does the trancey vocal bit and projects a ghost from her bionic eyeballs.
reminds me of a quote from Brotherly Love: "Allow me to cook some meat with my eyes"
oooh I hate to say it. paris is hot.
